The Skills page - turn AI skills on and configure them
What is on the Skills page
Growth+Open Skills in the dashboard. Skills are grouped by category: Support, Sales, E-commerce, Billing, Marketing and Custom. Online stores also see a short "Recommended for online stores" row.
For each skill you can see:
- Enable Agent. Turns the skill on or off for the whole workspace.
- Requires. The service the skill needs, such as Shopify, HubSpot or Calendly, with a link to connect it.
- Configuration. A JSON box for the skill's options.
- Live Test. Runs the skill against a sample conversation so you can see what it does.
- Usage. How many times the skill has run.
There is also a General guidance box that applies to the agent everywhere, for instructions that are not tied to one skill.
Turn a skill on
- Open Skills and find the skill.
- If it shows Requires, connect that service first.
- Switch Enable Agent on.
- Try it with Live Test, or in the chat playground.
Some skills are on by default (for example lead capture and escalation to a person); others, such as demo scheduling, start off.
Configuration
Each skill's options are a small JSON object. Examples:
| Skill | Option | Example |
|---|---|---|
| collect_lead | Require a phone number | {"require_phone": true} |
| sdr_lead_qualifier | Minimum company size sent to HubSpot | {"min_company_size": 20} |
| demo_scheduler, sdr_lead_qualifier, custom_webhook | Test without calling the outside service | {"dry_run": true} |
Invalid JSON is rejected when you save. There are no trigger-phrase lists: the AI decides when to use a skill from the conversation. To steer it, use the guidance box or your system prompt.
Limits that the AI cannot override
Some limits are enforced in code, whatever the AI decides. For example, discount_negotiator never offers more than 15% off and only within your written policy, and custom_webhook gives up on a call after 15 seconds. See skills overview.
Plans
- Free and Starter. You can see the list; skills do not run.
- Growth. Most skills, including lead capture, escalation, order status and demo scheduling.
- Business. Adds discount_negotiator, subscription_manager and custom_webhook.
Limits
- Workspace-wide. A skill is on or off for all channels at once.
- No custom skills. Use custom_webhook to call your own systems.
- Up to 10 custom actions per workspace.
Common pitfalls
A skill never runs. Check it is switched on, its required service is connected, and your plan is Growth or above.
"Invalid JSON". Use double quotes around keys and text values, for example {"require_phone": true}.
The skill runs when you don't want it to. Turn it off, or add a line to the guidance box saying when not to use it.
FAQ
Can I create custom skills?
No. Use custom_webhook (Business) to call your own endpoint.
Do skills use message credits?
Answers are charged in message credits as usual. A skill does not add a separate charge.
Can I see which skill ran in a conversation?
Live Test shows the skill's calls step by step for a sample conversation.
