Brand DNA auto-detection

Last updated: · 3 min read

What gets detected

During onboarding, when you provide your URL:

  • Primary brand color. Extracted from CSS variables, header/button colors.
  • Logo. Pulled from favicon or site header.
  • Font family. Detected from CSS.
  • Tone. Such as formal, casual, technical or friendly, worked out from your indexed content.

How it's used

Three places:

  1. Widget styling. Accent color, font family applied automatically.
  2. Hosted page. Logo and color inherited.
  3. Bot personality. System prompt seeded with detected tone.

Treat the detection as a first draft and review it.

Re-running detection

If your site changes:

  1. Open AI Agent > Appearance (shown as Appearance in the dashboard) and find the Brand DNA section.
  2. Click Refresh. AskVault re-analyses the content you have already indexed.
  3. Click Apply to set your widget colour from the result. Your logo is replaced only if you have not set one.

Manual overrides

Detected values aren't locked. Override anywhere:

  • AI Agent > Appearance for colors and logo.
  • AI Config for tone.

Applying a refreshed Brand DNA overwrites the widget colour, so re-check it afterwards. A logo you have set is kept.

When detection fails

Three cases:

  • JS-rendered site. Headless rendering pulls the colors but may miss CSS variables. Override manually.
  • Generic-template site. Bootstrap or other framework defaults. Specify your true brand.
  • Pre-launch site (under construction). Run detection later.

Limits

  • Site requirements. Must be publicly crawlable.

Common pitfalls

Wrong color picked. Auto-detection picks the most prominent. Override to your actual brand primary.

Tone too generic. Homepage copy too vanilla. Customize the system prompt directly.

Logo blurry. Favicon too small. Upload a higher-resolution version under AI Agent > Appearance.

FAQ

Can I skip Brand DNA?

Yes. Configure widget manually. Brand DNA just saves time.

Does this read sensitive content?

No. Colours, fonts and logo come from your public homepage only, and tone from content you already indexed.

How accurate is the tone detection?

Good as a first draft. Re-check after launch and override anything that is off.
