Sender address
Rolling out: not yet switched on. This page describes how it will work once it is enabled.
By default, emails AskVault sends to your customers on your behalf come from your workspace's name
with AskVault's sending address, for example Acme Store <[email protected]>. With a sender
address, they come from an address on your own domain, such as [email protected].
Which emails use it
- The email a visitor gets when a teammate replies after they left the chat.
- Inbox replies sent by email when the customer's channel can't take a reply directly and your workspace has no connected mailbox.
Visitors can still reply to these emails, and their answers still come back into the same conversation. Emails sent from a mailbox you connected yourself already use that mailbox's address and are not affected.
Set it up
Only workspace owners and admins can do this.
- Go to Settings → General → Sender address.
- Enter the address, for example
[email protected], and press Save address. - AskVault shows two DNS records. Add them at the company that runs your domain's DNS (for
example Cloudflare, GoDaddy or Shopify domains):
- a TXT record for DKIM (required). It proves emails from this domain really come from you;
- a CNAME record for the Return-Path (recommended). It helps inboxes trust your emails.
- Press Check verification. DNS changes can take from a few minutes to a few hours to show up. When the DKIM record is found, the status changes to Verified.
Until the address is verified, emails keep coming from the default sender, so nothing breaks while you wait.
Which addresses you can use
- An address on a domain you own.
- Not a free email address such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo or iCloud. Those providers don't let other services send as their addresses, so the emails would be rejected or land in spam.
- Not an AskVault address.
- One domain can be used by one AskVault workspace. To move it, remove it from the other workspace first.
Good to know
- If you later remove the DNS records, press Check verification again: the address goes back to waiting, and emails use the default sender.
- If an email can't be sent from your address, AskVault sends it once more from the default sender, so your customer still gets the reply.
- To stop using it, press Remove. Emails go back to the default sender straight away.
