Ingest knowledge from Slack
When to use
For teams whose Q&A lives in Slack:
- #it-help has hundreds of answered questions.
- #hr-questions has policy clarifications.
- #engineering has past decisions.
Import the history and let your agent resurface it for new questions. Most teams set these sources to internal (see below).
Setup
- Connect Slack first from the Deploy page (see Slack setup). The import uses that connection's bot.
- Invite the bot to each channel you want to import (
/invite @AskVaultor your bot's name). - Open Knowledge > Add Source > Slack.
- Enter the channel IDs, separated by commas (for example
C01ABCDEF, C02GHIJKL). In Slack, a channel's ID is at the bottom of its About panel. - Choose how many messages to import per channel (100 to 10,000) and click Import.
What gets imported
For each channel, the most recent top-level messages (up to the number you chose) become one knowledge source named after the channel, in chronological order.
Not imported:
- Thread replies.
- Files, images and reactions.
- Direct messages.
- Channels the bot hasn't been invited to.
Refreshing
There's no automatic sync. Run the import again for the same channels to replace each channel's source with its latest history.
- Don't use Resync on this import. Resync all (and Resync selected or Force Resync on an imported row) re-reads imported sources as if they were public web pages. That can mark them as needing attention, or replace the imported text with whatever the public page shows. Run the import again instead, and when you resync website pages, select them and use Resync selected.
Audience
Imported Slack content defaults to public, like every other source. To keep it out of the public chatbot, set the source's Audience to internal.
Limits
- Channels per import. 20.
- Messages per channel. 100 to 10,000 (1,000 by default).
- Plan. Business and above.
- History. Limited to what your Slack plan keeps.
Common pitfalls
"No Slack connection found." Connect Slack from the Deploy page first.
A channel imported nothing. The bot isn't in that channel, or the ID is wrong. Invite the bot and check the ID.
Sensitive content in answers. Set the channel's source to internal, and only import channels whose content your agent should use.
