Why AskVault caps content in MB instead of pages or seats
What each plan includes
Each plan has a flat monthly price, a monthly message allowance and a content cap:
| Plan | Price | Messages a month | Content cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 50 | 5 MB |
| Starter | $39/mo | 2,000 | 15 MB |
| Growth | $99/mo | 6,000 | 40 MB |
| Business | $249/mo | 15,000 | 100 MB |
| Enterprise | Custom | 40,000 or more (custom) | 2 GB |
You get alerts at 70%, 90% and 100% of your messages. At the message cap you can move up a plan, or buy a top-up pack on Starter and above. At the content cap, remove sources or move up a plan. Nothing is ever billed as overage. Full details are in the pricing breakdown.
Why megabytes and not pages
A page is not a consistent unit. A 200-word FAQ entry and a 40-page PDF are both "content", yet one holds hundreds of times more text than the other. Counting pages makes long documents look cheap and short pages look expensive.
Megabytes of extracted text track what actually gets indexed and searched, so the cap tracks what your web pages actually add to the index. Uploaded files, snippets, Q&A pairs and content imported through integrations (Notion, GitHub, Confluence) do not count toward the cap today. For comparison, SiteGPT counts pages and defines one as 2,500 cleaned characters; see AskVault vs SiteGPT.
Why not per seat
Charging per team member makes every new hire, observer or part-time helper a budget question. AskVault includes 1 to 10 seats from Free to Business, and adding someone within your plan costs nothing. See why there is no per-seat pricing.
What counts toward the content cap
Counts:
- Text extracted from crawled web pages (not the HTML around it).
- Web pages you add by URL.
Does not count:
-
Text extracted from uploaded files.
-
Snippets and Q&A pairs.
-
Content imported through integrations such as GitHub or Notion.
-
Conversation history.
-
Contacts and leads.
-
Activity and audit records.
How many pages fit in 5 MB depends entirely on how text-heavy they are, so the quickest way to know is to crawl your site on the Free plan and read the figure in the usage meter.
When you reach the cap
Pages that do not fit are not indexed until you free space or upgrade. To free space, remove sources you do not need from the Knowledge, or narrow a crawl with CSS selector targeting so only the useful part of each page is kept.
FAQ
Does HTML size count?
No. Only the extracted text counts, so heavy page markup does not use up your cap.
Is there a per-message charge?
No. Messages come from your plan's monthly allowance, with optional top-up packs on Starter and above.
Where do I see what is using my content cap?
In the usage meter and the Knowledge page.
