WordPress integration use cases

Last updated: 3 min read

Use cases

  1. Blog Q&A. Visitors ask about topics you've written on; the agent answers with links to the posts.
  2. Product documentation. Docs hosted on WordPress become searchable through chat.
  3. Pre-purchase support. Sizing, shipping and comparison questions answered from your published pages.
  4. Help center on WordPress. A documentation section, including a public custom post type listed in your sitemap.

Setup

  1. Crawl your site: paste its URL during onboarding, or use Knowledge > Add Source > Web Crawler. See WordPress setup.
  2. Add the chat widget by pasting its snippet into your theme's footer or with a header-and-footer code plugin. See widget setup.

Keeping content current

There's no on-publish sync yet. Paid plans can set an automatic re-crawl schedule, but until automatic re-crawl is on for your account a scheduled check may not re-read a changed page, so keep using Resync to be sure (details). After you publish or edit posts, use Resync in the Knowledge page for changed pages and run the Web Crawler again for new ones. See keeping website knowledge up to date.

Pairing with WooCommerce

If you run WooCommerce, see WooCommerce use cases.

Members-only content

Pages behind a membership login can be crawled with a session cookie (see cookies for login crawls). Set those pages' audience to internal if public visitors shouldn't get answers from them.

Limits

  • Content storage. Capped by your plan's MB allowance (5 MB on Free, up to 100 MB on Business).
  • Discovery. Up to 5,000 URLs from your sitemap per crawl (1,000 pages on Free).

FAQ

Does this work with WordPress.com?

Yes. WordPress.com sites publish a sitemap and can be crawled like any other site.

Will the agent read draft posts?

No. Only published pages in your sitemap are read.
