The Workspace Settings page

Last updated: · 4 min read

What lives in Workspace Settings

A single page with six sections, each collapsible:

  1. General. Workspace name, slug, default language, time zone.
  2. Branding. Logo, accent color, favicon. Used by widget, hosted chat page, email.
  3. Custom domain. Map chat.yoursite.co to your hosted chat page via CNAME.
  4. Identity verification. HMAC secret for verifying logged-in visitors.
  5. Member access. Workspace-scoped team roles (separate from account-level).
  6. Danger zone. Delete the workspace.

Different from Account Settings, which controls your login and billing across all workspaces.

General settings

Three fields you'll touch on day 1:

  • Workspace name. Visible in the dashboard and on the hosted chat page header. Editable any time.
  • Slug. The URL portion (askvault.co/c/{slug} for hosted chat). Changing it breaks links that use the old slug, so change it rarely.
  • Default language. Bot replies in this language unless the visitor's message clearly uses another.

Time zone affects analytics rollups (daily/weekly buckets) and SLA policy time-of-day rules.

Branding

The branding section controls everything customer-facing:

  • Logo. 1:1 aspect, recommended 256 to 512 px. Used in widget header, hosted page header, transactional emails.
  • Accent color. Hex string. Drives buttons, links, focus states across customer surfaces.
  • Favicon. 32 by 32 px for the hosted chat page browser tab.
  • Welcome message. Visitor-facing greeting on widget and hosted page first-load.

Brand DNA auto-detection (run during onboarding) pre-fills these from your homepage. Override here. Changes reach your widget within about a minute.

Custom domain

By default the hosted chat page lives at askvault.co/c/{slug}. For a branded URL, point a CNAME:

  1. Choose a subdomain like chat.yoursite.co or support.yoursite.co.
  2. In Workspace Settings > Custom Domain, enter the subdomain.
  3. Copy the CNAME target AskVault shows (something like hosted.askvault.co).
  4. Add the CNAME at your DNS provider.
  5. Wait for propagation (typically 5 to 60 minutes).
  6. Wait for the HTTPS certificate. Our team issues it after your domain verifies. Growth+

One custom domain per hosted page, on a subdomain such as chat.yoursite.com.

Identity verification (HMAC)

For logged-in visitors on your own site, identity verification prevents impersonation:

  1. Generate a secret under Channels > Website Widget > Identity verification > Generate Verification Secret. Copy and store it; it is shown only once.
  2. On your site backend, compute hmac_sha256(user_id, secret) (hex) per logged-in visitor.
  3. Pass the user_id and that hash to the widget's setUser() method. See identity verification for calling it before the widget script has loaded.
  4. AskVault verifies and treats the visitor as authenticated.

Audience

Each knowledge source carries an Audience setting with two values:

  • public. The default. Eligible for every channel, including the public widget and hosted page.
  • internal. Excluded from retrieval on public channels; still readable by your team in the dashboard.

Set it per source under Knowledge. See Audience on knowledge sources.

Member access (workspace-scoped roles)

Workspaces have their own role model on top of account-level roles:

  • Owner. Full control, including billing and deleting the workspace. One per workspace.
  • Admin. Configures settings, channels, skills and the team.
  • Member. Works with knowledge and conversations.
  • Support. Works in the Help Desk.
  • Viewer. Read-only.

Different from account roles (which control billing and team-wide settings). A user can be account-Admin but workspace-Viewer if scoped that way.

Danger zone

  • Delete workspace. Removes the workspace, its knowledge, conversations and leads immediately and permanently, behind a typed-name confirmation. Export anything you need first.

There is no archive or transfer-ownership action today.

API for workspace settings

There is no public API for this page today; use the dashboard.

Limits

  • Workspace count. 1 (Free), 2 (Starter), 5 (Growth), 15 (Business), unlimited (Enterprise).
  • Custom domains per workspace. 1 on Growth, up to 5 on Business and Enterprise.
  • HMAC secret rotations. No hard limit; rotate as often as your security policy requires.

Common pitfalls

Custom domain CNAME not resolving. DNS propagation takes time. Wait 60 minutes. If still failing, recheck the CNAME target string under Custom Domain.

HMAC verification fails on the widget. Wrong secret, wrong hash algorithm, or wrong input order. Compare your server's output with the examples on the identity verification page.

Branding change doesn't show on widget. Browser cache. Settings are cached for about a minute; reload the page after that.

FAQ

Can I have multiple workspaces under one account?

Yes. Workspace count varies by plan: 1 (Free), 2 (Starter), 5 (Growth), 15 (Business), unlimited (Enterprise). Each workspace has its own knowledge, channels, and analytics.

How do I move content between workspaces?

Export from the source workspace under Knowledge > Export, then import into the destination. Cross-workspace move via API on Business and above.

Yes for the display name. The slug change rewrites the /c/{slug} URL, which breaks bookmarks. The old address does not redirect, so update your links first.

Does deleting a workspace also delete its conversation history?

Yes. Deleting removes the workspace's conversations, leads, knowledge and analytics immediately and permanently. Export first if you need the data.

Can I clone a workspace as a template?

No. There is no duplicate-workspace option. Create a new workspace and import the same sources.
